LODI, San Joaquin County — October 23, 2026. Residents who are struggling to keep up with electricity charges should check the city’s own assistance programs before paying a third-party company that promises to reduce bills. The Lodi Electric Utility Payment Assistance page describes a 30% discount on monthly electric service charges for eligible low-income residential customers through the SHARE program, as well as separate assistance for certain customers with fixed incomes and temporary financial emergencies.
What is SHARE?
Under the city’s published requirements, Lodi Electric Utility residential customers whose household incomes fall within the applicable state low-income home-energy assistance criteria can qualify for 30% off monthly electric service charges. The city partners with Central Coast Energy Services to process SHARE applications. Its web page provides an online portal plus English and Spanish application packets and income-guideline documents. Income thresholds and documentation requirements may be revised, so residents should use the current forms rather than outdated screenshots.
Medical and fixed-income discounts are different
The city also advertises a Medical Discount Program for qualifying medical circumstances, with a published 25% electric-charge discount. Its Fixed Income discount has separate eligibility rules, including a requirement that a substantial portion of the applicant’s income comes from fixed sources. The city’s payment-assistance overview lists those programs separately. Customers should not assume that being eligible for one automatically proves eligibility for another.
What if a customer needs help paying a bill immediately?
The city’s CARE — Customer Assistance and Relief Energy package offers one-time assistance for qualifying low-income residential customers, with a published maximum of $162 per six-month period toward electric charges. It lists Community Partnership for Families of San Joaquin at 209-269-8262 and The Salvation Army at 209-369-5896 as application administrators, together with a city online application. Funding and eligibility are not guaranteed and can change. The program is described as additional help even for some existing discount participants.
How to apply securely
For SHARE and fixed-income assistance, start at Lodi’s official Payment Assistance page and use its partner link. Central Coast Energy Services lists 1-888-399-2728 for assistance. Do not email Social Security numbers, utility account passwords or confidential medical records to a newspaper or an unknown intermediary.
Check the right utility company
Lodi Electric’s programs apply to its own qualifying accounts. Some households in the larger Lodi area may receive electricity from a different provider. Those residents should check that provider’s programs and countywide LIHEAP resources. Use the actual utility name on the bill before applying.
