LODI, San Joaquin County — October 29, 2026. The sound and spectacle of migrating sandhill cranes will again be the focus of a three-day Central Valley celebration as the 28th Lodi Sandhill Crane Festival returns Friday through Sunday, November 6–8, 2026. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife lists the annual event in its new November calendar, and the nonprofit Lodi Sandhill Crane Association has confirmed the dates and venue.
Where is the festival, and how much does it cost?
The main event is at Hutchins Street Square, 125 S. Hutchins Street, Lodi, CA 95240. General festival admission is free, according to the Department of Fish and Wildlife. Organized guided tours to see sandhill cranes in their seasonal habitat are a separate offering, and their prices vary. A free festival entrance does not mean that all excursions, workshops or transportation are free.
For current sessions, ticket details and changes, use the Lodi Sandhill Crane Association official website rather than relying on third-party listings. Visitors interested in a guided excursion should check availability in advance.
What can visitors expect?
The organizers describe educational presentations and workshops on cranes, birdwatching, photography and conservation. The festival also includes wildlife-related art, exhibitors, vendors and activities that connect residents with the agricultural and wetland landscapes surrounding Lodi. Guided tours are designed to give visitors an opportunity to learn about birds in the wider area, not to guarantee an individual wildlife sighting.
Sandhill cranes travel through California’s Central Valley during fall and winter. Agricultural fields and protected wetlands provide seasonal feeding and resting habitat. Their presence brings tourism and environmental education to San Joaquin County, but observing cranes responsibly means keeping a respectful distance and following guides’ instructions.
How to plan a family visit
Before leaving, review the festival’s current schedule and the listed duration and meeting place for any booked tour. Families should distinguish the indoor festival venue from outdoor viewing locations that may require additional transportation and time. For field outings, consider weather-appropriate clothing and binoculars, and follow all access and private property restrictions. Check official road or site notices if weather changes.
